Citrus County Residents Engage in Shaping Future Growth Plans

Citrus County residents are taking proactive steps to influence the future of their community as county officials revise the comprehensive plan that guides local growth and development. An online survey launched by the county has already attracted input from over 200 participants, reflecting a keen interest in shaping the area’s direction.

Residents have embraced the opportunity to engage with the comprehensive planning process, which is crucial for determining how Citrus County will evolve in the coming years. The initial public workshop, held on December 8, drew more than 60 attendees eager to contribute their thoughts and learn about the planning efforts. According to Citrus County Commissioner Jeff Kinnard, this engagement marks a significant moment in the planning process.

Kinnard noted, “People who want to get involved are certainly taking advantage of it.” He emphasized that this initiative provides a meaningful platform for residents to express their views. The last update to Citrus County’s comprehensive plan was in 1990, making this revision particularly timely as the region experiences ongoing growth.

The county has partnered with Inspire Placemaking Collective, a community planning and design firm, to facilitate the development of a new plan aimed at establishing a clear vision for Citrus County in 2025. This comprehensive plan, required by Florida Statutes, serves as a long-term blueprint that informs government decision-making and aligns growth with community priorities.

The updated plan will address multiple elements including housing, transportation, economic development, conservation, land use, and recreation. Each of these areas will be crucial in determining how land is utilized, where infrastructure is developed, and how natural resources are preserved in the future.

Kinnard explained that the workshops aim to gather direct input from residents about their vision for Citrus County. Feedback from these sessions will play a vital role in shaping the comprehensive plan. Additional workshops are scheduled for January and February, with specific dates and times to be announced.

For those unable to attend the workshops, there are still opportunities to contribute. Residents can visit www.inspire-engagement.com/citrus-county-comp-plan to share their comments and complete the online survey. As the county moves forward with its planning efforts, community involvement remains crucial in ensuring that the voices of Citrus County residents are heard and considered in the decision-making process.
