Lewis County High School Wrestling Team Claims Third at Invitational

The Lewis County High School wrestling team secured third place at the annual McFly Outdoor Invitational held last weekend. The event, which has traditionally taken place in the Lewis County High School gymnasium, was relocated to the Battler Center at the now-closed Alderson Broaddus College due to increasing participation and attendance.

The Minutemen showcased their skills, finishing the Friday night matches with a commendable 4-1 team record. Their victories came against Doddridge, Gilmer, Nicholas, and Lincoln, with their only defeat occurring against St. Mary’s. Ultimately, Lewis County’s performance placed them behind first-place St. Mary’s and second-place Fairmont Senior in the overall standings.

Landon Bush emerged as the standout athlete for Lewis County, achieving an undefeated record and clinching the championship in the 150-pound weight class. Two freshmen also made their mark, with Landry Cogar securing second place in the 175-pound category and Zeke Brown finishing as the runner-up in the 132-pound class.

Additional placements included Alek Bragg, who took third in the 106-pound class, and Boe Alton, who finished sixth. Other notable third-place finishes came from Wyatt Hurley (113), William Hovis (157), and Alex Nash-Musgrave (285). In the girls division, Raigyn Marti earned a respectable fourth place.

The tournament saw participation from various sponsors, including McFly Outdoor, Mountaineer Specialty, and Kaufman Realty and Auctions, highlighting the community’s support for local athletics. The Lewis County wrestling team displayed resilience and teamwork, setting a positive tone for the remainder of the season.
