The CNY Diaper Bank is urging the Liverpool, N.Y., community to come together this holiday season to provide essential support for families in need. The organization is asking for monetary donations to help supply diapers to local families facing economic hardships. This initiative aims to alleviate the challenges many parents encounter in meeting their children’s basic needs.
Matching Donations to Maximize Impact
Community members, local organizations, and businesses can contribute to the CNY Diaper Bank through secure online donations at cnydiaperbank.org/holidaymatch2025. To amplify the effect of these contributions, the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation is offering a matching grant of up to $5,000 for donations made by January 1, 2026. Each dollar donated can provide a day’s worth of diapers for a child in need.
According to Michela Hugo, founder of the CNY Diaper Bank, “Nearly half of families with young children experience diaper need. When so many families are unable to afford their most basic needs, it is a glaring sign that our system must change.” She emphasizes that diaper need arises from low wages and increasing living costs, forcing parents into difficult decisions regarding their children’s care.
Addressing Diaper Need in the Community
Diapers are a crucial necessity for infants, yet they are not included in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or the Women, Infants, and Children benefits. The cost of providing adequate diapers for a single child can reach $100 per month, placing a significant financial burden on many families.
“Community members can make a positive impact for families this holiday season by donating to help us provide diapers and prevent diaper need,” added Hugo. The CNY Diaper Bank is New York’s largest diaper bank, collaborating with a network of partner agencies to distribute an average of 200,000 diapers to approximately 4,000 local infants and toddlers every month.
Since its inception in May 2016, the CNY Diaper Bank has successfully distributed over 11 million diapers to families in need. The organization is dedicated to ensuring all families in Central New York have access to necessary diaper supplies and to raising awareness about diaper need in the community.
