Barbara Todd Benson, a cherished member of her community, passed away on July 17, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Born in 1948 in Passaic, NJ, Barbara moved to Santa Cruz, CA, at the age of five, where she would spend much of her life.
She attended local schools, including Scotts Valley Junior High and Soquel High School, from which she graduated in 1967. Later, she pursued further education at Heald’s Business College. In 1989, Barbara relocated to Santa Rosa, CA, where she continued to nurture her passion for creativity.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Jeff Benson (Patti) of Henderson, NV, and Gary Benson (Shannon) of Fresno, CA. She leaves behind five grandchildren: Nicole, Andrew, Lauren, Scott, and Dean, as well as a great-grandson, Lukas. Her siblings, Lauri Todd (Greg) of Portland, OR, and Nancy Todd (Don) of Watsonville, CA, also survive her, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Marty and Vi Todd.

Barbara was known for her remarkable talents in sewing, quilting, crocheting, gardening, and various crafts. Her creativity left a lasting impression on those who knew her, with many family members cherishing handmade items she crafted. Despite facing significant health challenges, Barbara maintained a positive outlook and a quirky sense of humor, inspiring those around her to embrace life with joy.
Family services are planned to honor Barbara on her birthday in Santa Cruz. The family invites those wishing to pay tribute to consider sending flowers or planting a living memorial in her memory.
