Chuy’s Plans McKinney Restaurant Opening for Late 2026

Chuy’s, the popular Tex-Mex chain, is set to establish its presence in McKinney, Texas, with plans to open a new restaurant in the West Grove development by late 2026. This new location will occupy approximately 6,600 square feet and feature a bar and outdoor patio, enhancing the dining options in a rapidly expanding retail area north of Dallas.

The proposed restaurant will be situated on a 1.92-acre site at 8405 W. University Drive, according to city planning documents. Hailey Fitch, the communications manager for Chuy’s, confirmed the project, expressing enthusiasm for bringing the restaurant to McKinney. In an email, she emphasized the chain’s commitment to a made-from-scratch approach alongside its well-known signature sauces.

Menu Highlights and Dining Experience

Chuy’s menu promises a diverse array of Tex-Mex favorites, including enchiladas, tacos, burritos, flautas, and quesadillas. The restaurant will also offer fajitas, soups, specialty sauces, and a selection of margaritas. Known for its creamy jalapeño sauce and popular entrees, the McKinney location will provide a full-service dining experience, complete with bar seating and outdoor dining options.

The West Grove development is being marketed as a substantial mixed-use retail and dining district within the 380/Custer corridor. The area aims to attract visitors with a combination of retail, dining, and green spaces. With other national and regional dining establishments already in place, Chuy’s will join an impressive lineup at West Grove, which continues to position itself as a central destination for shopping and dining in west McKinney.

Growth and Future Prospects

In 2024, Chuy’s underwent a significant ownership transition when Darden Restaurants announced its acquisition of the chain. This strategic move has incorporated Chuy’s into Darden’s extensive restaurant portfolio, which includes well-known brands such as Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse. Industry observers suggest that this change may facilitate faster site selection and expansion into suburban markets like McKinney.

Currently, there are approximately 10 Chuy’s locations throughout North Texas, including establishments in nearby Frisco and Plano. This existing presence indicates that McKinney represents a logical next step as the Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs continue to embrace new national and regional dining concepts.

While planning documents indicate a targeted opening in late 2026, the timeline may shift due to the typical permitting and construction processes involved. As utility work and site approvals progress, both developers at West Grove and representatives from Chuy’s have not yet provided a specific groundbreaking date, leaving local residents and potential employees looking ahead to 2026 with anticipation.
