UPDATE: Jaguar’s audacious Type 00 concept is back in the spotlight after a year of near silence, unveiled in a striking new matte London Red finish. The reveal took place in front of a luxury hotel in London, celebrating the 90th anniversary of the iconic 1935 SS Jaguar.
This spectacular electric vehicle (EV) marks a significant pivot for Jaguar, as it shifts focus towards the ultra-luxury market, targeting competitors like Bentley. This move comes shortly after Tata Motors reportedly dismissed design chief Gerry McGovern, highlighting the urgency for a fresh direction within the brand.
The Type 00 stands out among high-end vehicles, drawing attention in a lineup that includes a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Bentley Bentayga, and even a Bugatti Chiron. Jaguar’s bold choice to showcase this concept instead of a near-production prototype raises eyebrows, especially as the official debut is expected in 2026. The final model will adopt a more conventional sedan shape but will retain its dramatic long hood, eschewing traditional combustion engines.
Jaguar’s strategy aims to attract a new clientele, with managing director Rawdon Glover revealing that only 15 percent of future buyers are expected to be returning customers. The remaining 85 percent will be newcomers to the brand, reflecting a calculated risk as the company moves away from its previous models. Glover confirmed that the Type 00 will carry a starting price of approximately $130,000, aligning it with competitors like the Porsche Taycan 4S.
While the production-ready car was initially slated for a 2025 release, it has now been postponed to 2026, although deliveries are still anticipated to begin by the end of next year. Glover promises that the Type 00 will “create a real visceral reaction,” emphasizing that Jaguar aims to produce a vehicle that delivers an unforgettable experience.
In a bold move, Jaguar has phased out all previous models, retaining only the F-Pace, which will also be discontinued by 2026, marking the end of combustion-engine Jaguars. This transition reflects a commitment to a fully electric future, with additional models—including an SUV—on the horizon.
The unveiling of the Type 00 at this prestigious event not only reignites interest in Jaguar but also serves as a critical moment for the brand’s rebranding efforts. As Jaguar embraces its new vision, the automotive world watches closely, eager to see if this gamble will pay off.
Stay tuned for more updates as Jaguar prepares for its upcoming launch and navigates this transformative period. The excitement surrounding the Type 00 is palpable, making it a topic of conversation among car enthusiasts and potential buyers alike.
