The latest incident occurred just after 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, when a vehicle struck 57-year-old Alexander Leroux in the 3500 block of India Street, Middletown. Emergency responders transported Leroux to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
This devastating accident unfolded less than six hours after another pedestrian fatality. At approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday, an SUV collided with 83-year-old Eduardo Sanchez in the 200 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard. Sanchez suffered severe injuries including a brain bleed and pelvic fracture, and he succumbed to his injuries the following evening.
Earlier in the week, on November 15, 21-year-old Esteban Rodriguez tragically lost his life when his sedan veered off state Route 125 in Spring Valley, striking a tree. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, emphasizing the urgent need for traffic safety in the area.
In Jamul, just before 4:30 a.m. on November 20, Guillermo Pagan, 55, was fatally injured by an SUV while walking along state Route 94. Tragically, Pagan died before paramedics could arrive.
Just a day earlier, 38-year-old Eleanor Anslow was struck by multiple vehicles while in the roadway at the 7500 block of Mission Gorge Road in San Carlos around 4:45 a.m. on November 19. Anslow was pronounced dead at the scene, highlighting the dangers pedestrians face in this region.
On November 18, an 89-year-old woman, Lucy Prewitt Starkes, suffered fatal injuries in a collision at a Jamacha-area intersection. Starkes was turning left from westbound Imperial Avenue onto Viewcrest Drive when her Volkswagen Jetta was struck by a Ford Excursion. After sustaining extensive injuries, including brain bleeds, she was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital but tragically passed away six days later.
