U.S. and Syrian Forces Target 15 ISIS Weapons Sites in Southern Syria

The U.S. military, in collaboration with Syrian government forces, successfully destroyed over 15 weapons sites associated with the ISIS terrorist group in southern Syria. This operation, confirmed by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on November 30, 2023, took place between November 24 and 27 in the Rif Damashq province.

The coordinated strikes included multiple airstrikes and controlled ground detonations, effectively targeting storage facilities used by ISIS. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to prevent the resurgence of ISIS following its territorial defeat by the U.S.-led coalition in 2019.

Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, characterized the operation as a significant success. He emphasized that it safeguards the progress made against ISIS, stating, “This ensures gains made against ISIS are lasting and the group is not able to regenerate or export terrorist attacks to the U.S. homeland and around the world.”

The destruction of these sites is a crucial move in the broader strategy to destabilize ISIS’s operational capabilities in the region. CENTCOM’s actions aim to eliminate any potential threats posed by the group as it seeks to recover from its losses over the past few years.

This recent operation underscores the ongoing commitment of U.S. forces and their allies to combat terrorism and maintain regional security. As the situation in Syria remains complex, these targeted actions reflect a focused approach to undermine ISIS’s infrastructure and operational reach.

The mission highlights the collaborative efforts between U.S. military forces and local Syrian authorities, reflecting a unified front against terrorism. As CENTCOM continues to monitor the region, further operations may be anticipated to ensure that gains against ISIS are preserved and that future threats are mitigated effectively.
