Germany Treats 1,700 Ukrainian Soldiers Injured in War

Approximately 1,700 Ukrainian soldiers injured during the ongoing conflict have been treated in Germany since February 24, 2022, when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The German Health Ministry provided this information during a briefing in Berlin on Tuesday. The ministry detailed how patients are transported from Ukraine and allocated to various hospitals across Germany for medical care.

This year, the German government has allocated €25 million (approximately $29.5 million) in federal funding specifically for the treatment of these soldiers. Health Minister Nina Warken commented on the nation’s commitment to supporting Ukraine, stating, “Willingness to help Ukraine remains high, including in the health sector.”

The conflict has severely impacted Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. According to the World Health Organization, over 2,800 health facilities have been targeted in attacks throughout the war. Warken emphasized Germany’s ongoing support, asserting, “We continue to stand firmly by Ukraine’s side.”

In addition to treating injured soldiers, Germany has also provided substantial medical assistance to Ukraine. The ministry has dispatched medical supplies valued at more than €76 million, which includes essential items such as protective suits, ventilators, and disinfectants. This aid underscores Germany’s commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s healthcare system amidst the ongoing conflict.

As the war continues, Germany remains a critical partner in efforts to provide medical support and humanitarian assistance to those affected by the violence in Ukraine. The collaboration between the two nations highlights the broader international response to the humanitarian crisis resulting from the invasion.
