Al Ahmed, who wrestled a firearm from one of the assailants during the attack, has been hailed as a national hero for his selfless actions.
The fundraising effort on GoFundMe, which has garnered significant public support, includes a notable donation of $99,999 from American billionaire Bill Ackman. The campaign highlights Al Ahmed’s bravery, stating, “In a moment of chaos and danger, Ahmed Al Ahmed stepped forward without hesitation.” The crowdfunding initiative aims to express gratitude and support for his courage, especially as he sustained injuries during the incident, reportedly being shot twice while protecting others.
As of now, total contributions to verified fundraisers for victims of the Bondi shooting and their families have reached nearly $5 million. Among the beneficiaries, nearly $780,000 has been raised for the family of Matilda, a 10-year-old victim who was the youngest among the 15 fatalities. Fundraisers for other victims, including Sofia and Boris Gurman, who were killed while trying to thwart the attack, have also seen significant financial backing, with approximately $650,000 collected for their family.
