The Indonesian National Police’s Drug Crime Investigation Directorate has charged a woman identified as ML, aged 35, with the illegal production and distribution of cosmetic products under the brand LC Beauty. Notably, she will not be detained due to her pregnancy, which is currently at nine weeks.
On March 5, 2026, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, the director of the Drug Crime Investigation Directorate, stated that the decision to exempt ML from detention was influenced by her health status. “The suspect, ML, is not detained considering she is nine weeks pregnant and is also recovering from surgery,” he explained.
Investigation Details and Charges
The charges against ML stem from an investigation that uncovered substantial evidence of her involvement in the production of cosmetics without the necessary permits. Furthermore, these products were found to contain hazardous substances, raising significant health concerns.
According to Brigjen Santoso, ML played a dual role as both the distributor and owner of the illegal home-based cosmetic venture. This highlights a growing issue within the cosmetics industry in Indonesia, where the production of unregulated products poses risks to consumers.
The legal action against ML is part of a broader initiative by the Bareskrim Polri to crack down on the illegal cosmetics trade, which has seen a rise in recent years. Authorities emphasize the importance of ensuring that all cosmetic products meet safety standards to protect public health.
As the investigation continues, the police are expected to gather further evidence to support the case against ML, while also addressing the larger implications of unregulated products in the market.
The situation serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by regulatory bodies in overseeing the cosmetic industry and the potential dangers that consumers may encounter from products that do not comply with safety regulations.
