Urgent Update: Turck’s Trees Delivers 17-Foot Capitol Christmas Tree

UPDATE: A stunning 17-foot balsam fir from Turck’s Trees in Litchfield, Minnesota, has just been delivered to the State Capitol in St. Paul to serve as this year’s Capitol Christmas tree. The tree, which will be decorated on Monday, marks a historic moment as it is the first time Turck’s Trees has been honored with this prestigious role.

Earlier this week, the majestic tree arrived at the Capitol and was expertly set up in the rotunda by Capitol staff, according to a news release from Turck’s Trees. This event is part of a long-standing Minnesota tradition, and the tree will remain on display for public viewing well into the holiday season.

The selection of Turck’s Trees was not arbitrary; they earned this honor after winning grand champion at the 2025 Minnesota State Fair. Competing against over 120 entries from members of the Minnesota Christmas Tree Association, Turck’s stood out for its quality and beauty.

According to Turck’s Trees, the balsam fir is renowned for its rich green needles, natural conical shape, and exceptional needle retention after being cut. It is also celebrated for being the most fragrant of all Christmas tree varieties, making it a perfect centerpiece for the Capitol’s holiday celebrations.

Founded in 1875, Turck’s Trees has been a family-run operation for generations. Joan and Steve Turck currently manage the farm, which spans approximately 100 acres dedicated to Christmas and landscape trees. The fourth, fifth, and sixth generations of the Turck family work together to continue this cherished family legacy.

In 2024, the farm also provided trees to the Governor’s Residence, further cementing its reputation in the region. As the holiday season approaches, the community eagerly anticipates the unveiling of this magnificent tree, which embodies the spirit of Christmas in Minnesota.

Stay tuned for more updates as the decoration event unfolds and the Capitol Christmas tree becomes a focal point for holiday festivities in St. Paul. Don’t miss out on experiencing this beautiful symbol of the season!
