Urgent Snow Alert: Central PA Faces Accumulating Snow Until 8 AM

UPDATE: A significant snow event is impacting Central Pennsylvania this morning, with the National Weather Service issuing an urgent weather alert at 3:26 AM today. Snowfall is expected to continue until 8 AM, affecting numerous counties including Northern Clinton, Northern Centre, and Southern Lycoming.

Residents should prepare for a period of accumulating wet snow, particularly between 5 AM and 8 AM, as a compact but potent upper-level disturbance moves eastward from South-Central PA to the Southern Poconos. This weather system is predicted to create slushy driving conditions, especially on untreated roads, with snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches expected on colder surfaces.

Travelers in the affected areas, which include Clearfield, Blair, Huntingdon, and more, are advised to exercise extreme caution during their morning commute. The snow is likely to begin tapering off west of Interstate 99 around 4 AM, but will continue to affect the Middle Susquehanna Valley and Western Poconos until 8 AM.

A spokesperson for the National Weather Service stated,

“Use extra caution if you must travel this morning as potentially slick roads may lead to accidents. Slow down and allow plenty of stopping distance between you and the vehicle ahead. Avoid braking suddenly.”

This weather event is expected to disrupt the mid-morning commute for many, impacting students heading to school and workers making their way to jobs. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions and plan travel accordingly.

As this winter weather unfolds, stay tuned for the latest updates and ensure your safety on the roads this morning.
