Urgent: CT Man Leads Police on High-Speed Chase After Assault

UPDATE: A Middletown man was arrested early this morning after allegedly dragging a police officer from his vehicle and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase on Interstate 91. The incident, which involved an assault on a police officer and significant narcotics possession, has drawn immediate attention from authorities.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on December 25, 2023, officers from the Rocky Hill Police Department attempted to stop a black Ford Edge linked to the assault. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Tyshawn Jermiane Adams, is accused of accelerating to speeds exceeding 100 mph, evading officers through multiple exits, and recklessly maneuvering across lanes, even turning off his headlights to evade capture.

State police report that during the pursuit, Adams demonstrated erratic driving behaviors, allegedly steering toward pursuing cruisers in a dangerous manner. Troopers deployed stop sticks, puncturing one of the vehicle’s tires, but Adams continued driving at high speeds until he slowed down on the Exit 28 ramp.

In a final attempt to stop the vehicle, state police executed a controlled box-in maneuver, during which Adams is accused of intentionally striking a police cruiser, disabling it. Officers took him into custody, revealing that Adams had an outstanding warrant for violating probation.

Upon searching Adams and his vehicle, authorities discovered “large quantities” of narcotics, including fentanyl, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana, as well as packaging materials for drug distribution. Adams reportedly showed “clear signs” of impairment and admitted to using multiple drugs before driving.

He now faces a series of serious charges, including operating a drug factory, reckless driving, and engaging police in pursuit. Adams was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court later today.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces with drug-related crime and reckless driving, raising concerns about public safety in Connecticut. Authorities urge anyone with information about drug activities in the area to report it immediately.
