UPDATE: A disturbing incident has shaken the local community as the Ten Lives Club, a prominent animal rescue in Hamburg, NY, faces an alleged break-in attempt caught on camera early Saturday morning. The organization urgently seeks community assistance in identifying the suspects involved in this alarming event.

Founder and executive director Marie Edwards received a notification from her Blink Camera application while out of town, revealing a group of four individuals approaching the rescue’s property. “I was appalled,” Edwards stated. “It was very scary to see the camera and the people; I don’t even believe they were kids, I think they were 18- to 20-year-olds.”

The surveillance footage, shared with WIVB News 4, shows the group, some masked and others in hooded clothing, attempting to enter the Ten Lives Club building. They also allegedly targeted a neighboring abandoned property, which the rescue is currently negotiating to purchase for expansion. “We don’t need any damage or anything broken or our animals hurt,” Edwards emphasized.

Fortunately, the individuals were unsuccessful in their break-in attempts but did manage to destroy two security cameras. Edwards noted, “They reached up to one of the cameras and tried to take it down. They got some footage of their faces, so hopefully, the police can work with that.”

“The fact that someone would try and break in and possibly jeopardize the well-being of our cats is just disappointing and heartbreaking,” said Kelly Sinclair, the rescue’s community development manager.

In light of this incident, Ten Lives Club is enhancing its security measures. Edwards announced that boards will be placed on all windows, and a stadium light will be installed to illuminate the area should anyone approach. “We’re going to be extra vigilant here at our building,” she added, urging staff to ensure all security protocols are followed.

Moreover, the rescue is appealing for donations to upgrade their camera system to prevent future incidents. Community members who recognize the individuals in the surveillance footage or have any information are encouraged to contact the Hamburg Police Department at 716-364-2035.

The emotional toll on staff members has been significant, as they grapple with the fear and uncertainty this incident has brought. “We’re pretty angry, to be honest,” Sinclair remarked, reflecting the collective sentiment at the rescue.

As the investigation continues, the Ten Lives Club remains committed to its mission of rescuing and caring for cats in need. Community support is crucial now more than ever to ensure the safety and well-being of their animals.

This urgent situation serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by local organizations dedicated to animal welfare. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
