Upper Darby Firefighters Deliver 40+ Thanksgiving Food Boxes

URGENT UPDATE: Upper Darby firefighters are making a significant impact this Thanksgiving by delivering over 40 food boxes to families in need. On November 25, 2023, members of the Upper Darby Fire Department gathered at the Cardington fire station to ensure that local families can enjoy a proper Thanksgiving meal.

The initiative, spearheaded by retired Chief Ed Cubler, is a testament to community spirit. Cubler, a lifelong Upper Darby native and dedicated fireman, has been organizing Thanksgiving food baskets for decades. His leadership has inspired the IAFF Local 2493 firefighters and their families to come together for this essential cause.

Josh Laubach, the Shop Steward for the Upper Darby Fire Department, reported that firefighters, along with new Fire Chief Nick Martin, quickly assembled and delivered the boxes. Each food box is filled with complete meals and additional items, allowing families to celebrate the holiday with all the traditional fixings.

This year’s effort highlights the critical role that local firefighters play beyond emergency response. They are committed to uplifting their community during the holiday season, making sure that no family goes without a Thanksgiving meal.

As the event unfolded, community members expressed heartfelt gratitude for the firefighters’ dedication. This initiative is not just about food; it embodies the spirit of giving that resonates deeply within the community.

In the coming days, more initiatives like this may emerge as local organizations and residents continue to support those in need. Stay tuned for updates on how the Upper Darby community is uniting to spread holiday cheer.
