UPDATE: Enrollment at the University of Idaho has achieved a record high of 12,383 students, marking the fifth consecutive year of growth. This surge defies national trends, as confirmed by UI President Scott Green in a recent media release.

The number of undergraduates has also reached a historic peak, with 7,978 students enrolled—this is the largest total since the university’s founding in 1889. Green highlighted that students are increasingly choosing to stay, reflecting successful retention efforts that are paying off.

When accounting for dual-credit high school students, total enrollment stands at 10,849, representing a significant 2.6% increase from the previous year. Notably, enrollment of Idaho residents has surged by 5%, aligning with the state’s robust population growth of approximately 5.1% between 2021-2024, according to the latest statistics released by Lewis-Clark State College during an Idaho State Board of Education meeting.

Graduate student enrollment also saw a positive trend, with an increase of 11 students bringing the total to 2,021—the highest in a decade. Among these, 1,382 are master’s students. The College of Law has become a particularly attractive option, boasting a 9.8% increase in enrollment, totaling 502 students.

The university is also benefiting from the Western Undergraduate Exchange program, which provides tuition discounts for students from partner states, resulting in a 6% increase to 1,872 students participating in the program.

These developments not only signify a thriving academic environment but also underscore the university’s commitment to accessibility and quality education, making it a prime choice for students across the region.

As enrollment continues to climb, the University of Idaho is positioning itself as a leading institution in higher education, adapting to the needs of its community and students. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
