TSMC Arizona Launches Mass Production of NVIDIA AI Chips Now
BREAKING NEWS: TSMC Arizona has officially launched mass production of NVIDIA’s Blackwell AI chips, a pivotal moment for the tech industry. This announcement comes during an event held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, attended by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and executives from TSMC, marking a significant milestone for the north Phoenix facility.
Despite the TSMC factory still being under construction—only about a third completed—the first batch of Blackwell chips has already been successfully delivered. These chips are specifically engineered for advanced artificial intelligence systems, underscoring the urgency of domestic production in the U.S.
Huang stated, “The single most important chip is being manufactured here in the United States by the most advanced fab at TSMC.” This statement highlights the strategic importance of the facility in bolstering the U.S. tech landscape. TSMC North America’s CEO, David Keller, confirmed that production will rapidly increase, saying, “You’ll see thousands and thousands of Blackwell’s coming out of this factory very soon.” Huang emphasized the scale of demand, declaring, “He spoke in thousands. We ordered in millions.”
In response to the growing needs of the AI sector, TSMC is already planning to expand its operations. The company has partnered with a developer to establish a large area across Loop 303, referring to it as an “innovation corridor.” This expansion will further enhance the company’s capabilities and strengthen the AI supply chain in the U.S.
During a recent earnings call, TSMC CEO C.C. Wei announced that the company aims to bring its cutting-edge 2-nanometer production process to Arizona sooner than anticipated, a technology that is not yet available in Taiwan. Huang reiterated the importance of this development, stating, “To support the AI infrastructure buildout we’re going to do, we’re going to need all of the fabs being built here in Arizona, but also a broad range of supply chains.”
As TSMC ramps up production, the implications for the AI industry are significant. This move not only positions Arizona as a key player in the semiconductor market but also enhances the United States’ capacity to meet the growing demands of AI technology.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as TSMC continues to shape the future of artificial intelligence manufacturing in the U.S.
