St. Pauls Moves Forward with Mural for America’s 250th Birthday

UPDATE: The Town of St. Pauls is actively exploring a vibrant mural to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. This initiative follows similar projects in neighboring towns like Lumberton, signaling a growing movement to honor this historic milestone.

During a recent Board of Commissioners meeting held on Thursday, Commissioner John Gudauskas revealed that the town’s Tourism Development Authority is assessing options for the mural. Crucially, the town’s Appearance Committee is involved and already has a design concept in mind. However, Gudauskas noted that it is still uncertain whether this design will be adopted specifically for the America 250 initiative.

“We need to start moving quickly,” Gudauskas emphasized, highlighting the urgency as “artists are going to be very busy between now and July 4.”

In addition to the mural discussions, the board addressed other pressing matters. Residents can expect to see Christmas lights adorning the town within the next week, with the annual Christmas tree lighting event scheduled for 6 p.m. on November 28. The festive Christmas parade will follow at 3 p.m. on December 6, promising to bring holiday cheer to the community.

Moreover, the board has authorized city staff to investigate a potential annexation request at 582 North Fifth Street, indicating ongoing developments in local governance. A special meeting is set for 7 p.m. on December 1, where newly elected Mayor Jerry Weindel and four re-elected commissioners will be sworn in.

As St. Pauls gears up for these significant events, community members are encouraged to stay informed and participate in the discussions surrounding the mural and other initiatives. The push for a mural not only marks a historical celebration but also aims to foster local pride and engagement.
