UPDATE: Bethesda has officially launched the highly anticipated port of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch 2. This surprise release, available now for $59.99 / £52.99, is confirmed to deliver an enhanced gaming experience on the latest console.
In a recent interview with Nintendo Life, Bethesda’s creative director, Matt Carofano, revealed that the porting process was “really easy.” Carofano, who also led the original game’s artistry, stated that with the new hardware capabilities, developers were able to significantly improve gameplay. “We can use DLSS now and get better resolution, better performance, and the game loads faster,” he noted.
The announcement is significant for fans, as Bethesda is known for shadowdropping games, and this release continues the trend established by the earlier remastered edition of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Carofano emphasized the team’s enthusiasm, saying, “We’re huge fans of Nintendo, love working with them and getting our games to their consoles.”
The Switch 2 version of Skyrim promises to utilize the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, allowing players to experience mouse controls, further enhancing the gameplay dynamics. “A lot of it is really just, ‘How do we take advantage of the Switch 2?'” Carofano explained.
Despite the excitement surrounding the release, some gamers are expressing concerns about the price point, especially since the game is available on other platforms at lower costs. Carofano acknowledged the ongoing jokes about Skyrim’s numerous re-releases, stating, “It’s a bit of a joke at this point how often we release Skyrim, but it’s a great game. We want everyone to be able to play it in the best way possible.”
The community’s reaction has been mixed, with some eager to experience Skyrim in a portable format, while others question the value of investing in a more expensive version of a game that has been released multiple times since its original launch over 14 years ago.
As the gaming world watches closely, the real test will be whether this new iteration can captivate the audience once more, especially amidst a landscape filled with alternative options. The immediate future will reveal how well Skyrim performs in the competitive gaming market on the Nintendo Switch 2.
