SCV Chamber Honors Veterans at Urgent Salute to Patriots Event

UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce held its 15th annual Salute to Patriots event on November 5, 2025, recognizing local veterans for their ongoing contributions to the community. The ceremony took place at the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida, where local leaders gathered to honor these everyday heroes for their service even after their military careers.

This year, six veterans were celebrated: Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Deputy Keith Wells, and Eric White. Notably, Camille Applin-Jones was unable to attend and will be recognized next year. The event highlighted the profound impact these individuals have made in the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) community.

At the ceremony, Di Thompson, chair of the board for the SCV Chamber, emphasized the significance of honoring veterans: “You are not only defenders of our country but also the pride of our community. You are heroes, both nationally and right here at home.” This sentiment resonated with the audience, illustrating the deep appreciation felt for veterans’ unwavering dedication.

Community members are encouraged to nominate veterans who have positively influenced the SCV business community but may not often be recognized. Ivan Volschenk, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber, stated that these nominations are vital for acknowledging unsung heroes.

As honorees were called to the podium, local leaders shared their inspiring stories, showcasing how each veteran has contributed to a brighter SCV for everyone. For example, Robert Lasher shared how his work at the SCV Food Pantry provided him a renewed purpose after facing personal loss during the pandemic. “It was nice that they were there to help me out and for me to help them out,” he said, highlighting the human connection fostered through service.

The event also featured heartfelt introductions from family members, with Emily White honoring her husband, Eric White. “He has a servant’s heart,” she remarked, emphasizing his dedication to helping others.

Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda reinforced the city’s commitment to supporting veterans, stating, “This community supports our veterans and always has, always will.” He urged attendees to recognize the challenges veterans face and the importance of treating them with the respect and care they deserve.

As the evening concluded, the SCV Chamber’s “Salute to Patriots” event not only celebrated the achievements of local veterans but also ignited a renewed commitment among attendees to support and uplift those who have served.

Next steps: Community members are encouraged to continue nominating deserving veterans for future recognition, ensuring that the sacrifices of these heroes are acknowledged and honored.
