URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated Scenes of the Schuylkill Art Show is set to open on November 4, 2025, at the North Hall Gallery of Montgomery County Community College’s Pottstown Campus. This annual juried event showcases the breathtaking beauty and cultural significance of the Schuylkill River National and State Heritage Area.
Running until November 21, the show features nearly 100 pieces from over 60 artists, making it a must-see for art lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. Patrick Rodgers, who has curated the show for nearly a decade, emphasizes the show’s connection to nature as it coincides with the fall season, a time when many seek refuge indoors.
“I love the natural aspect of the show,” said Rodgers. “It always brings nature in when the fall is releasing nature and we are all spending more time indoors.”
The event kicks off with an exclusive artists’ reception on November 5 from 6-8 PM. Tickets are available online until November 4 through the Schuylkill River Greenways website, with a limited number available at the door. The show will be open to the public free of charge during regular business hours.
This year’s Guest Juror is David Aipperspach, a distinguished local painter and Assistant Professor at Ursinus College. Aipperspach, who holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, will select winners for various categories, including Best in Show and Best 3-D Art. He expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “I’m primarily a landscape painter and I’m also an advocate and user of parks, trails, and the Greenways, so this is a great fit.”
Aipperspach emphasized his criteria for selecting winners, focusing on the seasonality and emotional resonance of landscape art. “In landscape and nature art, I’m looking for seasonality. I really like when color and landscape painting is really specific and evocative and transcends the traditional blues and greens we might expect,” he noted.
This event not only highlights local talent but also encourages community engagement with the Schuylkill River and its surroundings. As Debby Wyatt, a ceramic artist and owner of Centered Clay Studio, reflected, “I love The Scenes of the Schuylkill because it brings out all the creative people who enjoy the river and the beauty of the trail from top to bottom.”
