UPDATE: Sacramento has just reported significant strides in its battle against homelessness, with the latest weekly data revealing the management of 2,096 cases in just one week. The City’s Incident Management Team (IMT) outlined these developments for the period of November 10-16, 2023, highlighting urgent actions taken to assist unsheltered individuals.
During this week, the City received 544 calls to its 311 customer service line, resulting in the opening of 2,096 cases. Notably, this number exceeds the call volume as multiple cases can arise from a single call, according to the Sacramento City Express. Encouragingly, 2,466 cases were closed, reflecting a substantial number of issues resolved or compliance achieved.
In a concerted effort to connect individuals with vital resources, the Department of Community Response’s outreach staff successfully enrolled 74 people into databases that link them with local shelters and services. Furthermore, 17 individuals found placement at the City’s Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC). However, challenges remain, as the report highlights a critical capacity issue: zero Pallet homes and trailers were available at the Roseville Road campus, with only two spots at the OEC and an average of 13 openings at City-funded shelters.
Highlighting the tangible impact of these efforts, Sacramento’s team also conducted waste removal operations, leading to the disposal of an impressive 50,140 pounds of trash, addressing cleanliness in areas affected by homelessness.
Sacramento’s commitment to transparency in handling the homelessness crisis is reflected in a publicly accessible data dashboard, allowing residents to track IMT’s weekly progress since September 2023, alongside cumulative figures for outreach, compliance, and cleanup efforts.
This ongoing effort demonstrates the City of Sacramento’s determination to combat homelessness effectively. As the situation develops, residents are urged to stay informed and engaged with the latest updates.
