Sacramento Man Found Guilty of Attempted Murder, Animal Cruelty

UPDATE: A Sacramento court has just found Hamdi Bazyan guilty of attempted murder and animal cruelty following a shocking violent attack on his parents and the family cat in December 2021. The conviction was announced on Thursday, with the jury delivering a swift verdict after hearing harrowing testimony about the brutal domestic assault, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The violent rampage began on December 26, 2021, when Bazyan’s alarming behavior prompted his family to call the police. After officers left, Bazyan armed himself with three large knives, imprisoning his parents in their bedroom. The situation quickly escalated as he assaulted them with his fists and a cane, leading to a terrifying series of events.

During the attack, Bazyan inflicted severe harm on his family cat, stabbing her nine times and attempting to asphyxiate her. His mother suffered critical injuries when he stabbed her in the torso, while his father sustained multiple stab wounds as he tried to protect his wife.

According to Deputy District Attorney Alexandra James from the Elder Abuse Unit, the jury found Bazyan guilty of two counts of attempted murder, one count of animal cruelty, two counts of false imprisonment, and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. The jury also confirmed allegations of causing great bodily injury and personal use of a knife, underscoring the severity of his actions.

In a desperate bid for safety, Bazyan’s mother managed to escape to a neighbor’s home to alert the authorities. Bazyan fled the scene upon hearing police sirens but was eventually captured near the American River bridge. Both of his parents survived the attack, thanks to life-saving aid administered shortly after his mother’s escape, and remarkably, the family cat also survived the horrific ordeal.

Bazyan now faces a significant prison sentence, with sentencing scheduled for a later date, as confirmed by the District Attorney’s Office. This case highlights not only the dangers of domestic violence but also the bravery of those who seek help in dire situations.

As this story develops, the community continues to grapple with the impact of this violent episode. Further updates will follow as the sentencing date approaches, with many watching closely to see the repercussions for Bazyan’s actions.
