UPDATE: The road through the Roseau Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will remain closed during Minnesota’s 2025 firearms deer season, commencing Saturday, November 8, 2025. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has confirmed that the “lake bottom” road will be inaccessible to all travel for the entirety of the nine-day hunting period.
The closure affects 360th Avenue, specifically through sections 17, 20, and 29 of Unorganized Township. The closure begins a quarter-mile north of the Stoie Bridge, which crosses the Roseau River on 360th Avenue, also known as County Road 123. Hunters in Deer Permit Area (DPA) 267, which includes portions of Roseau Lake WMA and Lost River State Forest, should plan accordingly.
The road closure is part of the ongoing Roseau Lake Rehabilitation Project, a collaborative effort between the DNR and the Roseau River Watershed District. This vital construction aims to restore the approximately 3,000-acre Roseau Lake within the WMA, mitigate flood damages to private lands, and prevent overtopping of 360th Avenue during high water events.
Hunters and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to stay informed through the DNR’s Roseau Lake WMA webpage or by contacting the Roseau River WMA office at (218) 452-7610 for the latest updates.
This critical construction impacts not only local hunters but also the broader community reliant on the area’s natural resources. The DNR emphasizes the importance of public safety and environmental preservation, making this closure a necessary step in protecting the local ecosystem.
Stay tuned for further updates as the DNR monitors the situation closely throughout the deer season.
