NEPA Comic Con Celebrates ‘Star Wars’ with Iconic Guests and Events

The third annual NEPA Comic Con will take place in Dickson City from March 15 to 17, 2024, with a special focus on the beloved “Star Wars” franchise. This year’s event will feature appearances by notable actresses who donned iconic costumes and a voice actor known for his extensive work in animation.

Christine Galey, who portrayed R2-D2 in the series “The Book of Boba Fett,” will be one of the main attractions. Galey is recognized as the first woman to take on the role, and her R2-D2 costume has become a symbol among fans worldwide. “It felt great, just to be R2-D2,” Galey stated, recalling her experience as a performer in the suit. Prior to her casting, she was not a dedicated “Star Wars” fan, but she studied the original film to master the droid’s movements.

Susanna Malak, another featured actress, has made her mark by appearing in various roles in “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” Despite finding some of her costumes “very confined,” she expressed her gratitude for being part of the “Star Wars” legacy. “There’s been times that I sat there and had to talk myself through it, because I wanted to quit,” Malak shared, acknowledging the challenges of performing in elaborate costumes.

The event will be hosted at the Days Inn by Wyndham, where organizer Eric Kropiewnicki anticipates a lively atmosphere reminiscent of the cantina scene from the original films. Kropiewnicki stated, “It’s just so crazy how people get into all the stuff that they get into. It’s pretty fascinating.”

Attendees can expect a variety of activities, including meet-and-greets with guests, a cosplay runway, and the opportunity to purchase art and collectibles. Groups of dedicated cosplayers will showcase their creations, portraying characters from “Star Wars” and other franchises.

Admission prices vary, with tickets ranging from $5 for an advance ticket on Sunday to $100 for an all-access weekend pass. The first event kicks off with a party for weekend pass holders on Friday. On Saturday, the convention will run from 11:00 to 19:00, featuring cosplay karaoke in the evening. The final day on Sunday will welcome attendees from 12:00 to 16:00.

In addition to the actresses, voice actor Trevor Devall will also make an appearance, bringing his experience from various “Star Wars” animation projects and other productions.
