Long Beach Police Arrest Second Suspect in Thomas Mello’s Murder
UPDATE: Long Beach Police have apprehended a second suspect in the fatal shooting of Thomas Mello, which took place on October 12, 2023. The suspect, identified as Felipe Ramirez, 27, from Long Beach, was arrested after a SWAT operation in Huntington Beach on October 21.
The tragic incident unfolded in the 200 block of Falcon Avenue, leading to the initial arrest of Jose Garcia-Linares, 25, who was reportedly experiencing homelessness at the time of the shooting. Garcia-Linares was apprehended on the same day as the incident and is currently being held without bail on murder charges.
This latest arrest complicates an ongoing investigation, with detectives now believing the shooting resulted from an attempted robbery that escalated violently. The Long Beach Police Department is urging anyone with further information to come forward, emphasizing the crucial role of community support in solving this crime.
Mello was discovered suffering from a gunshot wound after police responded to the scene late at night. Despite immediate medical attention, he did not survive his injuries. Both Ramirez and Garcia-Linares face serious charges as they navigate the legal system. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is closely monitoring the case, which is already drawing significant public interest. The police are offering confidentiality for those who wish to provide tips, with detectives Eric Thai and Chasen Contreras listed as contacts. Community members are encouraged to reach out via LA Crime Stoppers to ensure anonymity.
As the investigation progresses, the Long Beach community remains on alert, seeking justice for Thomas Mello and answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his death. The police are committed to uncovering the truth, with any new leads possibly pivotal in resolving this case.
