URGENT UPDATE: The Detroit Lions are taking a much-needed bye week, but it’s hardly slowing down their star running back, Jahmyr Gibbs. Following a record-breaking performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gibbs is making headlines with his explosive play on the field.

Just days ago, Gibbs shattered franchise records, racking up a staggering 218 yards and scoring two touchdowns in a decisive 24-9 victory. This makes him the first player in Lions history and only the tenth in NFL history to achieve at least 135 yards rushing, 80 yards receiving, and two rushing touchdowns in a single game.

“If you give him a crease, he’s going to make you pay — and he made us pay,” Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles remarked, underscoring Gibbs’ ability to dominate on the field. Currently, Gibbs ranks fifth in the NFL with 720 yards from scrimmage and is second with 526 rushing yards, as well as third in the league with six rushing touchdowns.

“There will be no looking back,” Lions coach Dan Campbell declared confidently. “He’s going to just continue doing this.” The Lions (5-2) will take a break this week, allowing opponents to regroup before their next matchup on November 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.

In the recent game, Gibbs showcased his speed with a career-best 78-yard touchdown run, clocking in at an impressive 22.23 mph, marking the second-fastest run of the season. “I don’t know how many safeties in the league could catch him,” said quarterback Jared Goff. “As soon as he gets there, it’s over.”

Gibbs’ success is aided by a restructured Lions offensive line that created massive openings, allowing him to exploit defenses effectively. “In the first 12 yards, I knew it was a touchdown,” Gibbs said after the game. “All I saw was black jerseys and I just ran straight.” His agility was further highlighted when he evaded two defenders after a catch, demonstrating a move he credits to watching YouTube videos.

As the Lions prepare for their upcoming games, including home matches against the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers, teams will intensify their preparations, analyzing game tape to find ways to contain the dual-threat talent of Gibbs. In their previous losses to Green Bay and Kansas City, Gibbs was limited, managing only 50 yards from scrimmage and 65 yards against the Chiefs.

Despite the challenges, the Lions are determined to maintain their momentum. “We hate losing,” Gibbs stated while sporting a Pistons jersey and Tigers cap. “We’re always going to find a way to bounce back and get to our standards.”

Looking ahead, Coach Campbell expressed optimism about the team’s prospects. “You know what’s on the horizon,” he said. “It’s a little clear the mind and let the body heal a little bit and get right for the last push.” The Lions are eyeing their first Super Bowl appearance, gearing up for a critical stretch of games as they face divisional opponents.

Despite injuries affecting their defensive lineup, the Lions held the Buccaneers to a season-low nine points, showcasing resilience with four sacks, one interception, and a fumble recovery. “You are going to see players start to come back over the next month, so that is encouraging,” Campbell noted, adding that the team is only getting better.

The Lions’ bye week may provide a short reprieve, but the excitement surrounding Gibbs and the team continues to grow as they prepare for challenging matchups ahead. Stay tuned for more updates as the Lions aim for playoff contention.
