John A. Pickar, 62, Passes Away Unexpectedly; Community Mourns
URGENT UPDATE: John A. Pickar, a beloved member of the Duluth community, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62 on October 14, 2025. His sudden death has left family and friends in shock as they remember his vibrant spirit and dedication to the community.
Born on October 3, 1963, in Duluth, Minnesota, John was a proud graduate of East High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). He dedicated his professional life to Great Lakes Office Solutions and was an active member of the Rotary Club, contributing significantly to local initiatives.
John is survived by his mother, Peg Pickar, and siblings, Christine Beck, Bruce (Amber) Pickar, and Andrew (Kate) Pickar. His family also includes nieces and nephews: Joshua (Desiree) Butler, Arelle Kauffman, Danyell (Andrew) Cameron, Josie Pickar, Elise Pickar, and Frances Pickar.
His faith was a guiding force in his life, along with his passions for snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. John cherished every moment spent with friends, especially during fishing openers. His favorite retreat was the deer shack in Finland, where he enjoyed quiet moments reflecting on life and playing four-handed cribbage.
A notable enthusiast, John was also a proud member of the Beer Can Collectors of America, showcasing his love for collecting memorabilia. Many who knew him would say he had a unique ability to light up any room with his humor and kindness, making friends wherever he went.
“John made a friend everywhere he went and genuinely cared for everyone he met,” his family shared in a statement.
