URGENT UPDATE: The captivating exhibition “Living Collection: Works on Paper by Jason Eisner” is on display at St. Ambrose University’s Morrissey Gallery in Davenport, IA, but time is running out! This must-see collection will be available for viewing until April 24, making it essential for art lovers to visit before it’s too late.
Eisner’s work encapsulates a vibrant life filled with art and visual experiences, showcasing pieces that he describes as “found out of the corner of the eye and drawn while on break, sitting in the grass.” With roots in Illinois, Eisner has spent the last 30 years in New York City, where he has cultivated his unique artistic voice.
Currently, Eisner also serves as a Master Pruner and Horticulturalist at the renowned Green-Wood Cemetery and Arboretum in Brooklyn, a sprawling 500-acre landscape boasting over 8,000 trees, shrubs, and plants. His dual life as both an artist and horticulturist enriches his creative process, allowing him to draw inspiration from nature during his daily routine.
The exhibition prompts intriguing questions about the nature of artistry: “When does one become an artist? When does an artist make art?” Eisner embodies the spirit of creation, having drawn and painted throughout his life. Despite his career leading him outdoors, he continues to seize opportunities to create, finding moments of inspiration amid the hustle of everyday life, family, and work.
Visitors can explore “Living Collection” at the Morrissey Gallery, conveniently located in the lobby of the Galvin Fine Arts Center. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free. This is an incredible chance to engage with Eisner’s work, but act fast—time is of the essence!
