Idaho Courts Announce Limited Hours Amid Holiday Paid Time Off

UPDATE: Idaho courts are operating on a limited schedule today, as many state and county employees enjoy unexpected paid time off during the holiday season. This development comes after President Donald Trump announced on December 18 that federal workers would receive paid days off on December 24 and December 26. Following suit, Idaho Governor Brad Little confirmed similar benefits for state employees, prompting local counties to respond.

In Nez Perce County, only a skeleton crew will be available at the Nez Perce County Courthouse from 9 a.m. to noon today, assisting the 2nd District Court. This last-minute decision has led to scheduling conflicts, particularly for essential services like mental health court, which will need to be rescheduled. However, 2nd District Judge Mark Monson expressed that smaller cities can adjust without much disruption, stating, “I haven’t heard any grumbling about it.”

As a result of the State Supreme Court’s guidance early Tuesday morning, December 24 and December 26 have been declared “nonjudicial days.” This change extends deadlines for fines and filings due today to Monday, December 29, providing additional relief for those with pending court matters.

Other regional courts in Latah, Clearwater, Lewis, and Idaho counties will remain fully closed today, with normal operations resuming on Monday.

As for county offices, there are several adjustments to schedules affecting employees across the region. Latah County is already slated for a day off today, but Friday has been added as an unexpected holiday. Clearwater County offices will be closed from December 24 to January 1, although emergency services will remain operational. Meanwhile, Idaho County offices will close early today at 2 p.m., and Lewis County offices will be operational until noon.

This sudden shift in holiday scheduling reflects a growing trend in employee benefits and underscores the importance of work-life balance during the holiday season. As the news unfolds, residents are encouraged to plan accordingly for any court-related matters.
