Holy Family Haven Opens 72 Affordable Apartments in Clarkston
URGENT UPDATE: Clarkston has just welcomed Holy Family Haven, a new apartment complex offering 72 affordable housing units aimed at supporting families in need. This significant development was celebrated with a grand opening ceremony attended by local leaders and community members on October 11, 2023, showcasing the involvement of Holy Family Catholic School students who inspired the name and design of the complex.
The excitement is palpable as 50% of the units are already occupied, with more families set to move in shortly. Jonathan Mallahan, executive director of Catholic Charities Housing, emphasized the importance of this project for the community, stating, “It’s not just a place to live. It’s a foundation for families to make lasting changes in their lives and achieve their goals.”
The complex, located at 1411 Port Drive, aims to provide a safe, nurturing environment, not a homeless shelter, but a community where families can thrive. During the ceremony, Mayor Monika Lawrence praised the project, noting that John Pilcher, executive director of Horizon Housing Alliance, “promised Clarkston a top-notch housing project, and he really delivered.”
Currently, approximately 30% of the units remain available for families who meet the income qualifications, which range from 30% to 60% of the area median income (AMI). Interested families can apply through housing.cceasternwa.org/how-to-apply for a chance to secure a unit in this vital new community.
In addition to housing, Holy Family Haven will offer a comprehensive range of support services. These include mental health counseling, substance abuse recovery support, and transportation to medical appointments, ensuring residents have access to the resources they need to succeed. The initiative also includes provisions for fresh, healthy food distribution, addressing essential needs for families struggling to make ends meet.
KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment has supported this project with a substantial investment of $31.4 million, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing community welfare.
This timely development reflects a growing trend in Clarkston towards providing secure, affordable housing solutions for families in need, marking a crucial step in addressing housing insecurity. The community eagerly anticipates the positive impact of Holy Family Haven as families settle in and begin their new chapters.
Stay tuned for more updates as additional families prepare to move into their new homes at Holy Family Haven.
