Giant Pumpkins Race in Oregon’s Wild Pumpkin Regatta Today!
URGENT UPDATE: The 2025 West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta is underway, captivating crowds at Tualatin’s Lake of the Commons in Oregon this afternoon! Participants in whimsical costumes, including Captain America and Guy Fieri, are paddling in giant, carved pumpkins, making this event a must-see.
On October 19, 2025, the regatta celebrates its 21st year, combining spirited competition with creative costumes. Attendees are witnessing participants not only race for the finish line but also strive to keep their pumpkins afloat without taking on too much water.
Among the standout competitors is Parker Johnson, who won first place in the costume contest as the Very Hungry Caterpillar. “I was just chatting with my family in the car, brainstorming ideas, and my dad suggested a caterpillar eating its way out of the pumpkin,” Johnson shared with KOIN. His inventive costume has become a highlight of the day.
The giant pumpkins are provided by the Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers, with paddlers selected through a lottery system. Each competitor receives a hollowed-out pumpkin, a paddle, and a life vest, ensuring a safe and fun experience. Family-friendly costumes are mandatory, with all participants required to be at least 18 years old.
As the excitement unfolds, the community gathers, cheering for their favorite paddlers and enjoying the festive atmosphere. The regatta not only showcases the creativity of its participants but also strengthens community bonds in a unique and entertaining way.
What’s next? With races ongoing, spectators can expect thrilling finishes and more costume creativity as the event progresses. Stay tuned for updates on the winners and highlights from this unforgettable day at the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta!
