UPDATE: A Dodge Center man, Bradley David Aarsvold, 48, has been charged with stealing over $21,000 from an elderly woman, highlighting a shocking case of financial exploitation. The allegations, recently filed in Goodhue County District Court, reveal a disturbing pattern of theft from a vulnerable adult.
According to the complaint, Aarsvold is accused of writing checks and making unauthorized withdrawals from the account of an 81-year-old woman residing at Pine Haven Rehabilitation Center in Pine Island, Minnesota. The financial misconduct allegedly spanned from August 2024 to May 2025, during which Aarsvold reportedly withdrew cash, wrote checks, and used a debit card to siphon off the woman’s funds.
The situation came to light when the Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center alerted authorities in June 2025 regarding potential thefts from the victim. The woman had contacted her bank on December 26, 2024, expressing concern that she had never received her new debit card. Investigators found that Aarsvold had activated the card using a phone number registered in his name, with multiple ATM withdrawals totaling over $2,500 occurring between December 9 and December 26, 2024.
Further investigation revealed that Aarsvold cashed five checks and made an in-person withdrawal amounting to $3,900 from the woman’s account within a few weeks. Alarmed by the unusual activity, the bank began monitoring the account and discovered additional suspicious transactions. From February 15, 2025 to June 4, 2025, Aarsvold cashed an additional twelve checks, totaling $4,750, severely impacting the woman’s finances and leading to multiple overdrafts in her account.
This case raises urgent concerns about the protection of vulnerable adults and the need for stringent measures against financial exploitation. Aarsvold is scheduled to make his first court appearance on February 11, 2025, as the community grapples with the implications of this alarming incident.
As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains crucial for families and caregivers to remain vigilant against potential financial abuse. This case underscores the importance of safeguarding the financial interests of vulnerable individuals, ensuring that they are protected from exploitation.
