Dave Kirk Named New President of Greater Owensboro Chamber

UPDATE: In a significant leadership shift, Dave Kirk, an Owensboro native, has been appointed as the new president of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, effective December 8, 2023. He succeeds Candance Castlen Brake, who announced her departure after serving since March 2015.

Kirk, 38, currently the destination management director at the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), expressed his excitement about taking on this vital role. “It’s an incredibly important position,” he stated. “I’m honored to be selected.”

The announcement comes as the Chamber reaches a milestone of 988 members, the highest count in over a decade. Kirk aims to surpass the 1,000-member mark shortly after he assumes office. “If we haven’t hit that before I arrive, that will be my first goal,” he affirmed.

Mark Calitri, president of the CVB, praised Kirk’s dedication to the community, stating, “I am incredibly proud of Dave, and he has absolutely earned this opportunity.” Calitri highlighted Kirk’s impactful work in elevating tourism in Owensboro, a role he has excelled in since joining the CVB in 2018.

Kirk’s journey reflects deep roots in Owensboro. He is a graduate of Owensboro High School and holds degrees in journalism and communications from the University of Kentucky. His professional experience includes significant roles in local media and public information, where he engaged actively with the Chamber and its initiatives.

“We realized that he stood out above all the rest,” said Olga McKissic, board chairwoman, emphasizing that Kirk was the unanimous choice after a national search that attracted 70 applications. Kirk’s previous involvement with the Chamber, including volunteer roles and leadership initiatives, played a crucial part in his selection.

With a clear vision for the future, Kirk aims to foster stronger relationships with both members and nonmembers, seeking to understand the needs of the community. “I want to make sure Owensboro is heard in Frankfort. We have to go get it,” he declared.

As the Owensboro community prepares for this transition, Kirk’s leadership promises to bring new energy and vision to the Chamber, propelling economic development forward. The collaboration between the Chamber, CVB, and the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corp. is set to strengthen further under his guidance.

The future of Owensboro looks promising, with Kirk steering the Chamber towards new initiatives and opportunities. This leadership change is not just a new chapter for Kirk, but a pivotal moment for the entire Owensboro community as they look to thrive together.
