Community Mourns the Passing of Augustino Sorrentino, 72

Augustino “Augie” Sorrentino, a cherished member of the San Pedro community, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2026, at the age of 72. Surrounded by family, he leaves behind a legacy of love and connection that touched many lives.

Born on March 20, 1953, Augie was a lifelong resident of San Pedro, California. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mieke Sorrentino, and four children: Lisa Poteat (Chas), Joe Sorrentino (Jessica), Liz Sorrentino (Amanda), and Vincent Sorrentino. His grandchildren, including Joseph Parsons (Ricarda), Ava Sorrentino, Augie Sorrentino, Gray Poteat, Sam Sorrentino, and Pearl Sorrentino, were the light of his life.

Augie was known for his charismatic personality and dynamic storytelling. Friends and family describe him as a natural connector, someone who could effortlessly engage with those around him. His laughter and unmistakable energy left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Celebration of Life and Legacy

A visitation will take place on March 4, 2026, at McNerney’s Mortuary in San Pedro from 15:00 to 20:00. The first hour from 15:00 to 16:00 is reserved for immediate family, while friends and guests are welcome from 16:00 to 20:00. The Rosary will be prayed at 18:30.

Following the visitation, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on March 5, 2026, at 10:30 at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro. Augie will be interred at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, with a reception to follow at the home of Sal and Louise Sorrentino.

Augie’s family speaks of his unwavering devotion and deep love. His greatest joy was being surrounded by his family, particularly his grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boys & Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor, Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, or the Toberman Neighborhood Center.

As the community reflects on his life, it is clear that Augie’s impact will be felt for years to come. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
