Colorado Springs Launches DiscoverCOS Calendar to Boost Reforestation
URGENT UPDATE: Colorado Springs has just unveiled the 13th edition of the DiscoverCOS Calendar, marking a significant step toward environmental restoration. The calendar, featuring stunning community-contributed photographs, is available for a suggested donation of $15 and will directly support local reforestation efforts in the newly managed Snyder Quarry.
Residents and nature enthusiasts can now purchase the calendar, which showcases over 300 submissions from more than 100 amateur and professional photographers. This year, the initiative emphasizes a dual purpose: celebrating the beauty of Olympic City USA while fostering environmental stewardship.
Kim King, the PRCS assistant director, highlighted the initiative’s importance, stating,
“We’re especially proud that this year’s calendar supports local reforestation efforts, allowing art and stewardship to come together for a lasting impact.”
The funds raised will be allocated to tree planting activities aimed at restoring native habitats within the 163-acre ecological site at Snyder Quarry, located in Black Canyon Open Space.
This year’s calendar marks a pivotal shift from being just a visual collection to becoming a proactive vehicle for ecological impact. The decision to earmark proceeds for reforestation underscores the city’s commitment to enhance the resilience of its natural landscapes and support community engagement in environmental restoration.
Residents are encouraged to act quickly to secure their calendars, as the funds will play a crucial role in revitalizing the local ecosystem. The initiative reflects a growing trend in communities across the country, emphasizing the importance of merging creativity with environmental responsibility.
As the calendar becomes available, Colorado Springs aims to inspire both locals and visitors to appreciate the beauty of the area while contributing to its ecological future. The launch of the DiscoverCOS Calendar not only showcases local talent but also serves as a rallying point for collective action toward environmental preservation.
