Boulder County Traffic Disruptions: Major Road Projects Starting Now

URGENT UPDATE: Significant traffic disruptions are underway in Boulder County as multiple road improvement projects kick off this week. Residents and commuters should prepare for delays as construction impacts travel routes from November 1 to November 7.

The most critical project involves enhancements along 28th Street from Pearl to Iris, aimed at improving multimodal travel. Northbound lanes at the Valmont Road RTD Stop No. 17992, which services the 205 and BOLT routes, will be temporarily relocated until December 31.

Meanwhile, crews are set to replace the bridge over Fourmile Canyon Creek on 19th Street, leading to a full closure of northbound traffic between Sumac and Upland. This closure will necessitate a detour via Quince and is expected to last until April 1, 2024.

In another essential project, waterline replacements on 63rd Street will close 63rd, Andrus, and 62nd from Jay to Valmont. While access for businesses and residents will be maintained, the project is anticipated to extend until April 1, 2024.

Motorists should also be aware of ongoing milling and paving operations on Colo. 7. The work is expected to wrap up by December 15, but during this time, both eastbound and westbound lanes will experience alternating double-lane closures from 7 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday.

Further complicating travel, the Boulder County area will see lane closures due to culvert replacement work on Sugarloaf Road at Betasso Road. This project will involve a temporary three-way traffic signal, leading to potential delays into November. Access to the Betasso Preserve will remain open.

Residents should also brace for continued traffic impacts from a waterline replacement project on 63rd Street, which will affect travel until February 2024. Local access will be permitted as both lanes of traffic shift to the east side of 63rd between Gunbarrel Avenue and the railroad crossing.

In Erie, construction at the Prince Lake Dam at 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard continues through March 2026. Although no lane closures are expected, brief delays may occur as work trucks access the site.

Additionally, lane closures for traffic signal installation at Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive will take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through December.

Finally, Weld County has announced full closures of WCR 1.5 and WCR 3 until November 26 for maintenance work, with closures in place 24 hours a day.

With multiple projects converging at once, it is crucial for drivers to stay updated on traffic conditions and plan their routes accordingly. This is a developing story; we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
