Boston Police Seize 2+ kg Fentanyl, Arrest 5 in Drug Bust

URGENT UPDATE: Boston Police have seized over two kilograms of fentanyl and arrested five suspects in a significant drug bust in the Southwest Corridor area. This operation comes after community complaints about rising drug-related activities in the region, particularly following the shutdown of the notorious Mass and Cass tent-city.

The police department, along with multiple agencies including the Massachusetts State Police and MBTA Police, executed several search warrants across locations, including 176 Stratton St. in Dorchester and 127 Hazelton St. in Mattapan. The coordinated effort resulted in the seizure of not only fentanyl but also 32 rounds of ammunition, digital scales, drug packaging materials, and over $3,000 in U.S. currency.

Authorities report that this crackdown is a direct response to escalating concerns from the community about increased drug activity in the area. Boston has faced ongoing challenges with the opioid crisis, which has been exacerbated by the disruption of drug markets in surrounding neighborhoods.

The arrested individuals include:
Ricky Wilson Soto-Arias, 36, of Dorchester
Doris Baez, 37, of Mattapan
Bryan Mejia, 31, of Mattapan
Jeil Hernandez, 44, of Boston
Stephen Smith, 37, of Boston

All suspects, except Smith, have been charged with trafficking Class A drugs. Soto-Arias and Baez also face charges for unlawful possession of ammunition. Smith is being charged based on warrants for breaking and entering and larceny over $250.

As the situation develops, authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. This major operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis and drug trafficking in Boston.
