UPDATE: The community of Ballston Spa is mourning the loss of former Mayor Christine M. Fitzpatrick, who passed away on November 24, 2025. This beloved leader and advocate for public service left an indelible mark on her community, and her passing is felt deeply by friends and family alike.
Born on April 21, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, Christine dedicated her life to education and community service. She was not only a devoted sister and aunt but also the first female mayor of Ballston Spa, serving with distinction and passion since 1981.
During her tenure, Christine transformed her village’s financial landscape, turning a staggering $300,000 deficit into a thriving $4.8 million fund balance. Her commitment to enhancing public services and fostering citizen involvement will be remembered as a cornerstone of her legacy.
Christine’s career spanned various roles, including serving as an elementary school teacher and vice president of employee benefits at Macy’s, Inc. She later became the executive director of the New York State Adult Day Health Care Council, where she tirelessly advocated for community health initiatives.
Known for her warm heart and adventurous spirit, Christine enjoyed family gatherings, travel, and the arts. Her ability to connect with people was unmatched, as she maintained a remarkable memory for details that allowed her to touch many lives with her thoughtful gestures.
“Christine was a beacon of love, support, and inspiration. Her legacy will resonate for generations,” said her longtime partner, Richard Dautner.
Christine is survived by her siblings, nieces, nephews, and many friends who will cherish her memory. The community invites all who knew her to celebrate her life and share their memories during calling hours on Wednesday, December 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, located at 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Christine’s name to the Friends of the Ballston Spa Public Library, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, or The Community Hospice.
