UPDATE: The Colorado Avalanche staged an incredible comeback against the Carolina Hurricanes, winning 5-3 on Saturday night in Raleigh, N.C. This victory marks their 10th consecutive win and extends their point streak to 13 games.
In a thrilling third period, Brock Nelson scored two power-play goals within the first 7.5 minutes, turning a 3-1 deficit into a stunning victory for the NHL’s leading team. The Avalanche dominated the final period, scoring four unanswered goals to snatch the win from the Hurricanes.
Nelson’s first goal came just 1:09 into the third period, quickly narrowing the gap. Jack Drury followed suit, tying the game just 33 seconds later. Nelson then delivered the go-ahead goal at 7:30, while Nathan MacKinnon, the NHL points leader, sealed the game with a goal 18 seconds before the final buzzer, marking a dominant performance.
Gabriel Landeskog opened the scoring for Colorado early in the second period, and Cale Makar contributed with two assists. Goalie Scott Wedgewood made crucial saves, with 10 of his 25 saves coming in the fast-paced third period.
On the other side, Carolina’s Sebastian Aho celebrated his 300th career goal, supported by goals from Nikolaj Ehlers and Andrei Svechnikov. However, the Hurricanes faced their first three-game regulation loss of the season, dropping to 15-2-1 when leading after two periods. Goalie Frederik Andersen, despite stopping 30 shots, suffered his ninth consecutive loss.
The matchup also featured a nostalgic touch as both teams donned throwback uniforms, with the Avalanche in Quebec Nordiques attire and the Hurricanes in Hartford Whalers gear.
