URGENT UPDATE: An Altadena family is rebuilding their beloved micro farm after the devastating Eaton Fire. Experience Fable, known for its interactive animal encounters, has reopened its doors to the community, allowing visitors to engage with rescued animals like chickens, sheep, and goats.

The Chavez family was forced to evacuate their home along with 70 animals during the fire but has received critical support in their recovery. Thanks to a $10,000 grant from LISC LA’s Wildfire Relief Grant program, funded by Wells Fargo, they are reestablishing their farm with new fencing and facilities.

“That grant came at the perfect time,” said farm owner White Chavez. The majority of their animals were saved, and now they are back on Loma Alta Drive, where the farm has become a beacon of hope for the community.

During the chaotic evacuation, the family faced unprecedented challenges. “We literally had turkeys in a carport and on the side of her condo,” White recounted, explaining how the animals were temporarily housed at various locations, including the LA Equestrian Center and even in San Diego.

Now, with the rebuilding underway, White is focused on creating a welcoming space for visitors. “This is home. Somewhere here in the foothills, nature, beautiful place, that’s the next step,” she explained while discussing plans for a permanent location for Experience Fable.

Until then, the farm will operate weekly for small, local groups, allowing families to reconnect with nature and support revival efforts. The community is encouraged to visit and help the Chavez family reclaim their livelihood after the fire’s destruction.

This story highlights the resilience and determination of the Altadena community in the face of disaster. Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of Experience Fable and how you can support local recovery efforts.
