URGENT UPDATE: The iconic 2025 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be sourced from East Greenbush, New York. This stunning 75-foot-tall Norway Spruce, generously donated by the local Russ family, is set to make its debut this holiday season.
According to an official press release from the Center’s Magazine staff, the tree will be cut down on November 6 and will embark on a 140-mile journey to Rockefeller Center, where it will be installed on November 8. Residents and visitors can RSVP for a free family-friendly celebration to “Meet The Tree” upon its arrival.
The grand lighting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., broadcast live on NBC. This beloved annual tradition marks the beginning of the holiday season in New York City, drawing millions to witness the spectacle.
Judy Russ, a member of the Russ family, shared her excitement about the tree, which has been part of their family celebrations for over 60 years. “We look forward to creating more memories as it becomes the world’s Christmas tree,” she stated.
The tree will be adorned with 50,000 LED bulbs and topped with a magnificent 900-pound, nine-foot-diameter Swarovski star. Head gardener Erik Pauze, who has been searching for the perfect holiday trees for more than 30 years, said the Russ family tree was “perfect” as soon as he viewed its image.
This 92-year tradition not only brings joy during the holiday season but also contributes to a charitable cause. After the holidays, the tree will be donated to Habitat for Humanity, where it will be milled into beams to help build homes across the country.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree symbolizes the enduring spirit of New York City, reminding millions that “love, light, and community can grow from the roots of family and history,” as stated by the Center’s Magazine staff. The lighting of the tree will not only usher in the festive spirit but also celebrate the resilience and unity of the city and its people.
