Blue Jays’ Scherzer Set to Face Dodgers’ Glasnow in Game 3
The Toronto Blue Jays will have three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer on the mound for Game 3 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on October 16, 2023. The matchup will take place in Southern California, where the series is currently tied at one game apiece. Scherzer’s anticipation for the start reflects his competitive spirit, showcasing his dedication to the game.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider shared a lighthearted moment when Scherzer approached him recently, inquiring about his World Series start. “I was like, ‘Max, I’m enjoying a beer, man,'” said Schneider, highlighting Scherzer’s regimented approach to preparing for the game.
Scherzer expressed his excitement about this opportunity, stating, “This is what you play for, to be able to get to this spot, to get to this moment, to have a shot at it.” He emphasized the significance of reaching the World Series, noting that many talented players never get the chance to compete at this level.
The veteran pitcher, now 41 years old, is making his fifth start in the World Series. He previously contributed to the Blue Jays’ success in the American League Championship Series (ALCS), where he secured a victory against the Seattle Mariners in Game 4, allowing only two runs in 5 2/3 innings. This win marked Scherzer’s eighth career postseason victory and his first since his 2019 World Series win with the Washington Nationals.
Game 3 Preview: Scherzer vs. Glasnow
In the upcoming game, Scherzer will face Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow, who has shown impressive form this postseason with a 0.68 ERA in 13 1/3 innings pitched. Glasnow has made two starts and one relief appearance this October, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure.
Scherzer’s return to the postseason scene comes after he was omitted from the Blue Jays’ roster for the Division Series against the New York Yankees. Despite this setback, he has reaffirmed his status as a formidable competitor. His performance in the ALCS has not gone unnoticed, with Schneider and the team confident in his ability to deliver in critical moments.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has praised Scherzer, stating, “He’s one of one. Great competitor. Don’t want to touch him during outings, don’t want to pat him on the backside.” This acknowledgment from Roberts highlights the respect Scherzer commands in the league, underscoring the high stakes of the upcoming game.
As the World Series continues, fans eagerly anticipate how this matchup will unfold. With both teams showcasing exceptional talent, Game 3 promises to be a pivotal moment in determining the champion of this year’s series.
