Baseball Community Mourns Loss of Will Schock, 61, in 2025

William “Will” Witney Schock, a passionate figure in the world of baseball, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in Hayward, California. He was 61 years old. Known for his talent, accomplishments, and compassion, Schock’s legacy in the sport and his personal relationships have left a lasting impact on many.

Born in October 1964 to Trubee (Campbell) and James Schock in San Francisco, California, Will grew up in Mill Valley. His early education included Park Elementary, Mill Valley Middle School, and Tam High School. Demonstrating exceptional skill in baseball from a young age, Schock earned a scholarship to the University of California, Berkeley in 1982, where he continued to hone his craft.

In 1987, Schock was drafted as a pitcher by the Oakland Athletics out of Berkeley. He enjoyed a five-season career in professional baseball, reaching the Triple-A level. Following his playing days, he transitioned into a scouting role for the Athletics, where he remained until his passing. Colleagues admired his easygoing nature, positivity, and meticulous attention to detail, qualities that made him a beloved figure in the organization.

Honors and Personal Life

In recognition of his athletic achievements, Schock was inducted into the Marin Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame in 2014 for his outstanding baseball career at Tam High School. Beyond baseball, he was an avid golfer, demonstrating a competitive spirit that extended beyond the diamond.

Schock was also a cherished father figure to his two nieces, Katherine and Charlotte, following the death of his oldest brother, Jeff, in 2014. His familial ties were strong, and he is survived by his mother, Trubee; brother, David; sister-in-law, Jeanine; nieces, Katherine and Charlotte; and his long-time partner, Mary Coons.

A Celebration of Life honoring Will Schock is scheduled to take place on February 20, 2026, from 16:00 to 19:00 in the Cascade Room at the Mill Valley Recreation Center. Friends, family, and community members are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his remarkable life and legacy.
