LeRoy Forehand, a distinguished World War II veteran and long-time resident of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 7, 2026. His contributions during the war and his dedicated community service left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Born in Grinnell, Iowa, in 1923, LeRoy moved to southern California in 1941. He began his career at Lockheed Aircraft, where he worked as an aircraft ordnance technician on the P-38 fighter planes. In August 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving valiantly in the Pacific theater. Notably, he held the position of Beach Master during the pivotal battle on Saipan in 1945.
After the war, LeRoy returned to southern California, where he continued his professional journey at TRW and later at CALTRANS, ultimately retiring after many years of dedicated service. His commitment to his community extended beyond his professional life. In 1960, he joined the Gardena Masonic Lodge, where he eventually attained the office of Master.
LeRoy was also an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), serving on the Honor Guard at Post 1622 in Lomita for over 20 years. His dedication to honoring fellow veterans was evident through his participation in various events, including the annual Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade and his support for the USS Iowa.
He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Forehand, who carries on his legacy. Friends and family will gather to remember LeRoy at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary, located at 1223 Cravens Ave., Torrance. A viewing will take place on Thursday, February 26, from 16:00 to 19:00. The memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, at 10:00 in the mortuary chapel. Following the service, LeRoy will be laid to rest at Green Hills Cemetery.
In honor of his life and service, a celebration will occur post-interment at the Lomita VFW Post 1622, located at 1865 Lomita Blvd. LeRoy Forehand’s legacy as a devoted veteran and community member will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
