Remembering Dan Ericson: A Life of Service and Community

Dan Ericson, a respected member of the South Bay community, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025. He was surrounded by family and friends at the age of 77. Dan’s life was marked by his deep commitment to family, his career in real estate, and his unwavering dedication to his community.

Born on October 26, 1948, Dan spent his childhood in Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach, nurtured by his mother, Virginia Ericson. He attended Aviation High School, where he stood out as an athlete, excelling in baseball and basketball, and was even crowned Homecoming King. After his time at El Camino College, Dan’s volleyball talents earned him a spot at San Diego State University, where he continued to pursue his passion for sports.

Following his education, Dan served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, showcasing his commitment to his country. After a brief stint in the aerospace industry, he discovered his true calling in real estate. Over the years, Dan established a successful real estate business in the South Bay, renowned for his integrity and generosity. He took pride in mentoring young realtors, instilling in them the values of honesty and heartfelt business practices.

In 1980, Dan married his beloved wife, Cetha Walkington, at Neighborhood Church. Their partnership was built on love, family, and a strong sense of community. Dan is survived by their two children, Sten and Kirstin, as well as his son-in-law, Katrin, and his four grandchildren: Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.

Dan was known for his kindness and gentle nature, coupled with a playful sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. His love for wordplay and clever jokes kept friends and family entertained, always accompanied by his warm smile. In his youth, Dan enjoyed surfing, fishing, and sailing, activities that reflected his easygoing spirit and connection to the ocean.

For more than 40 years, Dan was an active parishioner at American Martyrs Church, remaining deeply engaged with his community. His legacy of service and love will continue to resonate within those who knew him. Dan is now reunited with his cherished wife, Cetha.

A funeral Mass and celebration of life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.. Prior to the service, a paddle out will be held at 10:00 a.m. on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, inviting all who wish to honor Dan’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, reflecting Dan’s commitment to helping others even in death.
