Carol Stent, Beloved Wife and Advocate for Animals, Passes Away
Carol A. Stent, a cherished figure known for her love of animals and enduring spirit, died peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was by the side of her devoted husband, David Y. Nakahara.
Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Carol was the daughter of John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis. A proud graduate of the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation, she formed lasting friendships with her classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who had a profound impact on her life.
A Life of Adventure and Love
Carol’s adventurous spirit led her to San Francisco, California, where she and four classmates forged careers and found love. Her striking beauty and zest for life caught the attention of Raymond Michael Stent, a medical intern from England. The couple married at the Wayfarers Chapel after Raymond completed his residency at U.C.L.A. and received his Board Certification in Neurology.
Following their divorce in the 1980s, Carol found happiness with David, an attorney practicing in Torrance, California. They were wed in Las Vegas on May 20, 1989, and together, they expanded their family to include numerous beloved pets, affectionately referred to as their “fur babies.”
Legacy of Compassion and Advocacy
Throughout her life, Carol demonstrated a deep commitment to caring for others. She played a crucial role in supporting David as he cared for his aging parents, providing love and guidance during their final years. This dedication was particularly remarkable, given that Carol herself was recovering from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed.
Carol’s passions extended beyond her family; she had a profound love for animals and was known for her advocacy for their welfare. Her vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to her loved ones left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, David, and her sisters: Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida; and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina.
“Soli Deo Gloria . . . Only To God the Glory.”
Carol Stent’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and compassion, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
