Three Candidates Compete for Two Seats on Boyertown School Board

Three candidates are competing for two seats in Region 1 of the Boyertown School Board in the upcoming general election scheduled for November 4, 2025. The election features incumbent Ruth Dierolf, who will appear on ballots as both a Democrat and a Republican; newcomer Michelle Wile, running as a Democrat; and Matthew Weir, representing the Republican Party. Each candidate is vying for a four-year term on the board.

In an effort to inform the public about their positions and qualifications, the Reading Eagle posed two questions to each candidate. The first question focused on the characteristics that make them suitable for serving on the school board, while the second addressed the most pressing challenges facing the district and their proposed solutions.

Candidates’ Responses

Michelle Wile, an educator with extensive experience, emphasized the transformative power of education in her life. She expressed gratitude for her public school education in Pennsylvania, stating, “It really has made all the difference in my life’s trajectory.” Wile holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania and has taught various grade levels. She highlighted her administrative accomplishments, particularly in developing effective math interventions that received state commendations.

Wile identified significant challenges in student proficiency, particularly in math and reading. She noted that standardized testing results indicate many students are lagging behind. “These are not abstract statistics — they are our grandchildren, our neighbors’ children,” she remarked, underscoring the importance of addressing these issues. As a strong advocate for full-day kindergarten, Wile cited research indicating that high-quality early childhood education positively influences lifelong learning outcomes. She believes that while expanding to a full-day program may require additional resources, the long-term benefits justify the investment.

In response to fiscal concerns, Wile acknowledged that a tax increase might be necessary but insisted that it could be balanced through prudent school board leadership. She called for “frugal stewardship” and innovative thinking, emphasizing that strong schools are foundational to strong communities.

Incumbent Ruth Dierolf did not provide a response to the Reading Eagle’s questions.

Matthew Weir also chose not to submit responses.

As the election date approaches, voters will have the opportunity to evaluate the candidates’ qualifications and proposed solutions to the challenges facing the Boyertown School District. The outcome could significantly impact the direction of education in the community for years to come.
