Medina County District Library Streamlines Passport Services

Residents of Medina County, Ohio, can now access passport services conveniently through the Medina County District Library (MCDL). The library has established itself as a primary location for passport photo and processing services, with both the Medina and its branch libraries in Brunswick and Lodi offering these essential resources.

Tina Sabol, the community engagement manager for MCDL, emphasized the importance of preparation for applicants. “Appointments are required, and the last appointment is scheduled two hours before closing,” she stated. When patrons call to arrange their appointments, a pre-interview is conducted to ensure they have all necessary documentation and to address any specific circumstances, such as custody issues or instances where non-guardian parents cannot be present for a minor’s application.

The application process is designed to be efficient. For a family of four without complexities, Sabol indicated that it typically takes about one hour. She also shared practical advice regarding passport photos, stating, “Applicants should avoid wearing glasses, hats, and shirts in white or camouflage patterns.”

To facilitate the application process, Sabol encourages residents to visit the library’s website at mcdl.info/Passport. There, individuals can find a detailed list of requirements, download forms, and understand the associated costs, including application, mailing, and expedite charges. Notably, MCDL also provides passport services for infants, which can be particularly challenging due to the requirements for baby photos.

In 2025, MCDL issued a total of 3,958 passports, marking a 1 percent increase from the previous year. Sabol noted that the majority of applications occur in the first four months of the year as families prepare for summer travel. Specific figures illustrate this trend: in January 2025, the Medina Library processed 255 passports, followed by 191 in February, 228 in March, and 176 in April. In contrast, the number of applications dropped to 113 in October and 107 in November, highlighting a seasonal pattern in passport processing.

As the summer travel season approaches, the Medina County District Library continues to play a vital role in assisting residents with their passport needs, ensuring they are well-prepared for their journeys ahead.
